TERMS OF USE
Observe thoughtfully and operate equipment safely.
Infinite Scope is an astronomy planning, education, sky-map, and compatible ASCOM Alpaca telescope-control application offered by MetalTorque.
By using the app, you agree to these terms and the Infinite Scope Privacy Policy.
Astronomy information is approximate
Object positions, observing scores, rise and set times, weather, user-supplied light-pollution settings, event dates, ISS predictions, and observing plans are estimates assembled from calculations and third-party data. They can be delayed, incomplete, unavailable, or wrong. Infinite Scope is not a navigation, aviation, emergency, or scientific safety system.
Telescope and solar safety
You are responsible for the setup, limits, supervision, and safe operation of any telescope or mount. Telescope commands can move physical equipment. Verify clearance, cabling, slew limits, alignment, and the selected target before sending a command.
Never observe or point optical equipment at the Sun without a correctly installed solar filter designed for that instrument. Permanent eye and equipment damage can occur immediately. Do not rely on Infinite Scope to provide collision, Sun-avoidance, or hardware safety interlocks.
The built-in simulator controls no hardware. ASCOM Alpaca mode connects only to a user-selected local server. Local Alpaca HTTP and UDP traffic may be unencrypted.
Camera use
Camera access is optional and requested only when you open a feature that needs it. The AR sky overlay processes live camera frames on your device and never uploads them. Plate solving sends a single captured frame to a third-party plate-solving service, astrometry.net, over an encrypted connection only when you explicitly start a solve; that provider processes the frame under its own terms, described further in the Infinite Scope Privacy Policy. An offline, on-device solving option is also available and never uploads the frame anywhere. Infinite Scope does not access the camera in the background or continuously upload camera frames.
Third-party data and services
Infinite Scope uses or links to public information from Open-Meteo, NASA, NASA/JPL Horizons, IMCCE / Observatoire de Paris, In-The-Sky.org, the International Meteor Organization, The Space Devs, CelesTrak, and astrometry.net. Those providers own and operate their services, do not endorse Infinite Scope, and are not responsible for the app. Their availability, attribution requirements, licenses, and terms apply independently:
- Open-Meteo terms
- NASA API terms
- NASA/JPL Horizons
- IMCCE analytical planetary theories
- In-The-Sky.org
- International Meteor Organization
- The Space Devs
- CelesTrak
- astrometry.net
You may not use Infinite Scope to evade provider limits, interfere with a service, or unlawfully extract or redistribute provider content.
User records
Observations, sessions, favorites, preferences, and recent telescope connections are local device records. You are responsible for any information you enter and for keeping any separate backup you require. The Log's Export action opens the device share sheet with a JSON copy only when you request it; your selected destination then handles that copy. Infinite Scope may isolate a malformed local record in an on-device recovery copy that you can export from Settings. Cache cleanup preserves user records, but Erase Observing History, Erase All Local Data, Android Clear storage, and uninstall can permanently remove the records described by their confirmation dialogs.
Acceptable use
Do not use Infinite Scope to access telescope equipment without authorization, send unsafe or unlawful commands, probe networks you do not control, interfere with another person or service, or violate applicable law. Alpaca connections are limited by the app to private and local-network hosts.
Purchases and accounts
Infinite Scope requires no developer account and contains no advertising. The free app includes the core sky map, Best 5 observing plan, events, ISS tracking, observing log, and telescope simulator. An optional, non-consumable Infinite Scope Pro in-app product unlocks advanced planning, smart observing alerts, and control of compatible ASCOM Alpaca telescope hardware.
Pro is a one-time purchase, not a subscription. The price and any applicable taxes are shown in Google Play before checkout. Google Play processes payment, ties the entitlement to the Google account used at checkout, and provides the purchase and restore mechanisms. Refunds are handled under Google Play's refund process and applicable consumer law. Restoring requires access to Google Play with the purchasing account. Feature availability can also depend on compatible hardware, local-network access, provider availability, and device support.
Availability and liability
Infinite Scope is provided as-is and may change, lose provider access, or stop operating. To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, MetalTorque and the data providers disclaim warranties and liability for inaccurate data, missed events, unavailable services, telescope movement, equipment damage, personal injury, or lost local records. Nothing in these terms excludes rights that cannot legally be excluded.
